The report, born of the Vet Futures and VN Futures projects, provides a series of case studies of how the concept can, and has, been applied to “real world” situations for the benefit of human, animal and environmental health.
The report covers six major themes:
- Mental health and well-being
- Antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
- Zoonoses
- Non-communicable diseases
- Environmental and climate change
- Injuries
What’s the purpose of the report?
In a blog to support the release of the report, BVA policy officer Megan Knowles-Bacon outlines the purposes behind the report.
“Our report aims to explain the concept more clearly and showcase real-world examples of One Health in action, in a variety of situations. It also highlights some practical ways in which everyone can help, as from individual conversations to large-scale projects, no One Health action is too small to make a difference.”
Case studies
Each section includes three case studies provided by contributors from a variety of professional organisations, including The Wildlife Trust, APHA, VMD, Royal College of Nursing (RCN), National Trust, PDSA and the British Dental Association (BDA).
In a foreword to the report, BVA senior vice-president Simon Doherty, chairman of the UK One Health Coordination Group, said: “It is our hope that readers of this One Health in Action Report will gain a better understanding of how collaboration between stakeholders can make a real difference to the world that we live in.”
