Carol worked as a veterinary surgeon in small animal practice for 15 years, including 6 years as a partner. With 7 years’ experience of teaching veterinary nursing and animal care and 13 years’ experience of teaching veterinary communication skills, she completed her PG Certificate in Medical Education in 2006.
Following a PhD on informed consent in veterinary practice at the University of Birmingham in 2018, she is now a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Liverpool, extending the findings from her PhD to incorporate shared decision-making. Her website ‘Petconsent’ provides links to high quality pet healthcare information sources for pet owners to help to prepare them for veterinary consultations. She is passionate about helping veterinary clients to fully participate in veterinary treatment decision-making.
She has co-edited two books, one on ethics and law for veterinary nurses, and one on communication skills for veterinary practice.
Carol was co-founder of ONCORE alongside Jill Macdonald. Since stepping away from the day-to-day running of ONCORE, she still helps out on some of our modules.
